From my experience, after there is a guild that is dominating, the rest of the server (70%, 80%, however many) will form together and try to make their own crush guild.

They may not have good gears, and they may even suck at their characters, however, their numerical advantage will likely put them at even footing with your guild.

Welcome to Iris, 3 months past the opening of the server. How to encourage competitiveness... the only way is to break alliance and defend your forts without coordinating with your friends.

Otherwise, the server is going to follow much the same path, you and yours will develop to where you have the monopoly on all the end game content, the rewards, and then back to a monopoly on WoE. To be sure there will be some others completely outside your circle attaining small bits of glory.

The only other end to your dominance is if Tychon ever decides to take a break, the upper tier leadership may decide to go their seperate ways, and you might have some seperate factions that fight. But that's almost more of a bitter and resentful warring, the stuff flame wars are built from.

In any case, it's your server. Anyone capable of even standing to the challenge of Valkyrie already has a vested interest in their own premium server WoEs.

Frankly your guild ruined the server (your all so rich and so powerful that you are gods compared to everyone else). Its not your fault though, its the fault of the GMS. There should have been NO woes for the first 2 months of the Server. The Emperiums should NOT have just been sitting there for the first lvl 2 guild to break. They should have been set not to spawn until the first woe started.

Also, the GMs did not properly respond the the repeatable zeny quest. They should have fixed the quest and rolled back the server.

Valk server is ruined.....I was interested in it at first but now its far more corrupt then even chaos/loki

Ren wrote on November 18, 2008

You guys would be on top no matter what. But at least if they launched the server properly you would be getting the fights you seem to want

wouldn't a be a better idea to use Provoke on support classes, such as Priests,Bands/Dancers and Sages to decrease their DEFs, cause they don't use Physical attacks that often, or don't use at all?

TwilightsCall wrote on November 19, 2008

From my experience, provoke is used more to interupt skill casting then to actually lower defense.

Negai wrote on November 19, 2008

I'm from Red Ribbon, a small spanish Guild, and we've formed an alliance with the other 3 spanish guilds out there, I guess we'll try to make some competition, but it's very hard when you don't have the equips or money, (and no ice picks)

Doddler wrote on November 19, 2008

To be fair it took our guild almost 10 hours of solid playtime for 10-15 people to be able to take those 10 woe2 forts... the monsters in there were many times stronger than the majority of our players. So the emp wasn't really just sitting there, it was a pretty major endeavor. RageQuit actually made guild about the same time we did but I guess Jamba wasn't fully aware that you could take the forts, or didn't gather enough knowledgeable players until it was too late.

Gravity could have handled the situation a little better though I think... Also the same goes with the ayo quest exploit. They just didn't react fast enough to have any major impact on what happened.

I do think there's enough room for a guild of players with smarts and know how to step up and become competitive, but its not that easy at this stage in the game. If more people step up to the woe2 plate, SOMEONE other than us is going to walk away with one of those 70 econ forts and that will push them into a position where they can be competitive. I'm fairly certain we're only capable of allocating members to defend 3 separate forts at once.

Good luck Negai! I guess since inertia took your defended castle you're free to try your hand at woe2, which could potentially be much higher on returns than taking your old fort back. A word of advice though, if you plan on attacking woe2 castles, don't gather in front of the castle you want to attack before woe, the trouble with defending 10 castles is that not knowing where you're going to be attacked from makes it considerably harder to allocate players. Inertia made that mistake by gathering outside a fort before woe and we were able to move a precast to that castle before they attacked. Also castles don't start with guardians until Tychon summons them, meaning attacking early is key. Most castles only have 4 guardians at the start but the number of guardians increases over time to 14, so again, early is key. If a guardian stone is down before we can react, you never have to fight guardians. :)

The AVIs are still interlaced. You should fix that. Still much better than the last one.

Hello Dodd! I am from the guild, Sakura!
I also hope that the WoE times will split. To me the problem looks like there are too many spreads of castles for the quality and quantity of the guilds out there.

Although I don't speak for my guild as a whole.. we will try and continue to create competition out there!

JJ.JJ wrote on November 19, 2008

may i ask what program you used to record the game!

Xanst wrote on November 19, 2008

Praise Jesus woe times split next week because woe today was hella boring.

Daniel wrote on November 20, 2008

Yes, we at sakura will continue attempting to wrest control of forts for the big guns.

I don't know if anyone noticed but this is 100th post :P So congratulations Doddler on this :P

Negai wrote on November 20, 2008

Thx for the tips, I'm trying to convince my guildmates but our "leaders" seem to want to wait till the 25th to go Woe2. I told them that to hold a Woe1 castle wasn't worth it but they don't seem to listen =(

LK Counter Class wrote on November 20, 2008

I think there's an easy solution to this.

A) 2 weeks with no woe

B) those 2 weeks, up exp rates by 50%. Gives people time to "catch up".

...That's all i got :/

skarczew wrote on November 21, 2008

I see the following problems:

1. Like many people have stated already, the GMs should have waited before making WoE available to players. IMHO it should be at least 3 months before first castles were opened.

2. The WoE times are bad for people in european timezones. Very few people can play after midnight, or in early morning.

3. The Guild Extension should be reduced. It would make guilds smaller and increase the number of them.
The alliances should be reduced as well.

4. Splitting castles into different WoEs is arguable. It will make defending on Tuesday harder, but you can get more castles on Saturday as your force won't be spread as much.

? wrote on November 21, 2008

Well, iRO is to blame because they allowed WoE2 Forts to be so open while they should've expected any guild that could control 1~2 will eventually have enough econ and gears to handle more and more WoE2 forts. That is the case for Valkyrie.

And Valkyrie, why would you ask for some guild participation/competition now if your main goal in the beginning of the server was to get as many WoE2 Forts so you could get an advantage?

You guys, admittingly, have quality and quantity. Even if you guys are asking for more participation, there's still the quality advantage. Quit asking the server to WoE.

Ser wrote on November 22, 2008

Hey Doddler, I've been watching your WoE Valkyrie videos and something ocorred to me, why don't you use /bm? It's a lot faster than opening the inventory to use blue pots, agi items and stuff.

RO's been dead since 03 I don't see how dominating valk server would even matter at this point. The catasses ruin things for everyone again, news at 11. The story of every mmo.

Thaum wrote on November 23, 2008

Well done Doddler! It was fun to read how long it took you to recognize that you just ruined WoE on Valkyrie. :)
I wouldn't have been surprised to see someone else do the same thing, but you have spend quite some thoughts about balancing in RO before. Anyhow, the initial mistake was that of the iRO staff to enable WoE from the beginning. So if it wasn't you, someone else would dominate the server now.

Always nice to read your journal Doddler, however I'm amazed, like most, at how you've given your guild/alliance so much credit so far for their defense (your defense is admirable, but it is because they are WoE2 castles that you are holding so many). Especially considering your videos show the amount of guardians that get kills compared to your guild, and how difficult it is for you to tank one with assumptuo on.

The split WoEs will help to bring a challenge back to your guild but the advantage is already well in your court. My guess is we will see a slow drop off of the castles owned by Valkryie as other guilds will not coordinate their attacks on you and you'll always be able to move your defenses where they're needed. That is unless you're attacked on multiple fronts. But considering your strategy of having small forces in any attacked castle to simply back up the guardians, those guilds will need a large force to even hope they can break.
