<3 good luck on this project. i honestly have tried this before on Loki, the first few people i ask for some popo tank asked " how much would you pay? " ack! then i bumped into a female sinx who and gave me a good sum of zeny to start with. i guess it really depends on your luck on who to bump in with. any way.... Cylen is a female LK OMG?! shy, all i long im thiking how cool he was, err now "she" was.

This is something I'll be keeping a close eye on. I used to play iRO and had been considering giving it another try(oRO didn't work out for me for obvious reasons). I was hesitant though because I'm so far behind I'd be nearly starting from scratch.

This is the type of data I'd like to see before making my decision. Pretty awesome of you to be willing to devote the time into trying something like this out. Good luck out there!

mia wrote on November 18, 2007

I reckon this will depend on who you meet (luck) a bit and how familiar you are with the game, but having not played iRO I cant really comment further..

Love reading your posts and I'll look forward to your reports!

Cheers,
Mia
ps. sorry for my bad english >A<""

Very cool idea. My friend and I did the same experiment recently. Mostly to start an alchy for OD on chaos but none the less... In about a months time we accumulated a level 80 alchimest, 65 priest and 65 greed smith, and 70 hunter. Also we obtained about 70-80mil or so in gears and zeny.

So it's quite possible to play on an alt sever starting from basically scratch except your knowledge of the game. And this wasn't even devoting 100% of our RO time

Aren't you busy enough as it is?! D:

Speaking of inaccessiblity. Do people still need a certain IP that allows them to play jRO?

I agree with mia. Also, how well you handle the game on your own. You can play for years and hardly get anywhere, and someone else can be on for less than a year and get SO much done.

Mm, should be fun. I remember I switched from Chaos to Sakray and started from scratch without knowing anybody and now my characters are far more successful than what I had on Chaos. Oh well, good luck with whichever server you choose. I guess Sakray is out because it's the "easy mode" server. :'(

lee wrote on November 18, 2007

I would love to see your results, probably because I have thought about starting over from scratch a few times on a different server^^;. Anyways good luck on your journey (and keep up the good work on the sites, they are great) ^^

Isn't the problem the player knowledge? Think of a new person playing a thief who invests early level points into vit, int or luk? A starting thief who knows how all skills work, all stats work, knows what can sell to shops and what can sell to other players? Too many variables, and believe me, this game (as is a lot of MMOs, but this one particularly) is pretty unforgiving to "newb" mistakes. Try grinding on a thief who gets hit by almost everything as a person new to the game.

MyrrhLynn wrote on November 19, 2007

Humm.. I look forward to seeing this as well. Although I'm gonna agree with Xyra and guess you aren't going to do Sakray since most people don't consider it a "real" server and if I remember correctly you have a tkm on there, don't you? So Chaos or Iris? XD

And Tinari, it's true that he will have a lot more info about the game then a complete noob but I have zero sympathy for people who just start playing the game without doing any research and then wonder why they are having a hard time. There are how many millions of guides out there that tell you exactly how to make your build, where to level, how to make zenny, how the different things work, etc. I get very annoyed with people who ask stupid questions in game that make it obvious that they didn't even read the bare minimum guide/info that iRO publishes on their site.

If someone started playing a console game without reading the instructions or doing an ingame training session and then quit because "it's too hard" wouldn't you call them an idiot?

Doddler wrote on November 19, 2007

Its true player knowledge contributes to harder time getting into the game, but that also means you have a lot more room to move around. I remember when I first started playing the game, even the most mundane things seemed special. I thought there were a lot of people in payon for example, I probably played for 4-5 hours before I even got to prontera, where I was amazed. Even if new players take longer to get into the roll of things, being new to the game also makes the ride more enjoyable.

Doddler brings up a counter point I am struggling with myself. I -miss- that old feeling of everything being new and everything being an experience. Some people don't WANT to go reading guides because of how much information there is and how it can ruin the experience. There's a fine line between enough info to learn and run with it, and enough info to ruin the surprise you may have going in. Love the site, Doddler. *goes off to lurk again.*

This will be very interesting, I myself am havning a hard time choosing between continuing to play on iRO where I have been playing for about 2.5 years or start on euRO where the time zones allow me to participate in WoE. Right now im playing their free trial so I can compare my achievements to your's, LOL. Maybe your journal can inspire me to make a decision :).

Err... i like to read your stories and im anxious to see what you got, but when is this journal comming? -__-

Nat wrote on November 22, 2007

you cant really conduct this experiment yourself because.. you already know about RO. You're NOT a newbie: new to the game, exploring the maps with a fresh start. Its hard without knowing anyone (unless you know how to play the game already -- which you do). I switched servers about a year ago now, and the only reason I have a 90+ trans is because I knew the game already. Right after I hit my 2nd job, I joined a guild to get to know people when I started from zero again. I think thats the essential part of being in a game like RO. Knowing people, and doing things with them and learning more about everything (because each server is different).

JaytheMagician wrote on November 22, 2007

Yes I agree with Nat. In that same vein if you JUST so happen to play on chaos and you JUST so happen to be in/by/near/around Prontera, I think you should maybe check out East Kafra. Something wonderful might happen there ;D *waves to nat*

Well i have a lot of advanced chars by my own because of that feeling, usualy i only create another char and just go all the way for another 4 to 6 months, witout any help from other my other chars... it is just reminds me of that time when i used to play iro for just the 15 trial days XD, with i remind the last time i did it, i could make a lvl 78 female sin, same that converted on the inspiration to pay my first acount xD, well god luck on this, and remember something that a lot has forgoten... ENJOY!!!

I tried something similar on Sakray (granted it is sakray 2x reg server) I easily got to 2m in my first day by aming two lov level thieves camping the 6 blue herb spawns on the orc map, and the 4 blues and 1 shining onthe map outside of magma, switching bback and forth the two theifs for maximum loot.
