I think its great that someone is doing this. I believe the game is easier now then it has ever been. If there are people saying that its harder now then before, they are just wrong. Selling empty bottles for 1k+, lol, I wish that was around when I was starting off. I had to hustle cyfars to get my first good gears. It does bring about a different sort of fun factor when you start from scratch again. Reading this makes me want start a similar venture.

RO is just not very big in the states compared to other markets, and I think the older it gets the less new players it will draw. I have played for 3 years and I think I can say i've almost seen everything there is to be seen in ro, thus it has become very repetitive and boring to lvl and party. I still find sat woe very entertaining and i'll always enjoy talking to my firends. thats what I play the game for now.

Unfortunately, the fact you know how to vend alone and the fact you made two characters gives you an unimaginable advantage, as well as knowing what that undergarment does and how to complete the set. Man... I miss being new. In the amount of hours you spent, I was about level 20 and still running around with a cutter in Prontera Sewers, having no idea of what dropped what or where was valuable to hunt. :p

On the one hand, it is understandable that doddler has the mentioned advantage of experience and knowledge about the game. On the other hand, what do you people expect him to do, erase his knowledge from his brain? Quit the project? Force himself to act like a newb?

If anything that can be taken from this project by newbs is the fact that they could follow exactly in doddler's footsteps as detailed out in this journal and research things stated that they do not understand at their own pace.

What doddler is doing for the newb community here WITH pictures and sort of detailed explanations without boring the them is way more beneficial and enjoyable than scouring forums and feeling demotivated from the wealth of information.

I for one really enjoy reading this. Many do, I'm sure. You get this melancholic feeling and think back to the opening of Chaos on iRO. I recall my thief having one of the first three sakkats on the server, fun memories :-)

I do wonder how he will go about later on. That's the part where I have more difficulties. Will he hunt every single card / gear he needs, or somehow make the many millions required to buy them? It's the part where I struggled the most on euRO. Later on the boredom of grinding and people unwilling to party with my rogue caused me to quit..

I thought about starting from the scratch aswell after reading this. But I've got a similar "problem". My knowledge is way too big that it would be even nearly the same like starting... ^^

Anyway, I do really like reading this stuff :)

I understand the value of this project, Linguini, and I apologize if playing devil's advocate here bothers you. Yes, the information would be a wellspring for a new person, if they knew about it. The problem is that if you are searching for a new MMO and you learn of RO and have never played it, the chance of finding this specific guide (located in a person's proclaimed journal) is very slim. Even then, they'll most likely just do out-dated game-faqs and whatnot. If I had never played RO before and someone directed me to exactly what Doddler was doing right here, I'd have been overjoyed. The information that I made due with was helpful indeed (anyone who remembers Weggy's huge faq) but I doubt the average MMO goer is going to read such a massive documentary just to get into it. I still see the game as having a bit of a new person barrier just by the sheer fact of everything being disorienting with little in game help/guidance. But I certainly do think what Doddler is doing here is a step (or three/four) in a great direction, if not a bit flawed from a true "newbie" perspective.

Yea, if you had no RO experience and only access to iRO official website before they had a forum, you wouldnt really "get" the game. If you were a complete noob, they really should direct you somewhere to learn all the game concepts and stuff, or maybe to this site. lol
